Greetings CommBabies!
As I was scrolling through my feeds the other day, something struck me. Men and women (or girls and boys if you prefer) express themselves verrry differently on social media. For example, many of the female-written tweets/posts say things like: "Relationship Goals" and then have a pic of some random (or fairly well-known) couple doing something couple-like.
Males, on the other hand, tweet about sports, funny vines they see etc.
So, let's do a little social experiment. Using your Twitter or FB account, choose at least 3 girls and 3 boys that your'e following or are "friends" with on FB and find their last 5 tweets/posts. What you're looking for is similarities to each other and differences. What do you notice?
Is there a difference in the way your M/F followers speak/write? What is it?
Note ANY similarities and ANY differences you see.
You can either screen shot the posts/tweets and copy them here, or you can transcribe the tweets yourself and talk.
This week and part of next, we are going to be talking about some of the differences men and women have as they experience the world.
This assignment is due by Friday, 11/14, at midnight.

Research Collaboration
Greetings, awesome Comm kids!
This space will be used for you to collaborate on some of the research you were doing today (and will be doing tomorrow).
To reiterate, in case you may have forgotten, these are your research questions:
What facts surprised you? (this question relates to the two videos we saw in class)
What are the hunger statistics for our AND surrounding communities?
Is there any one group that is affected disproportionately by hunger?
What impact does hunger have on school and resources?
Research "food desert"
Research SNAP
Additionally, I have linked the site No Kid Hungry to the blog--there are two other videos you can watch and there may even be some useful information for helping to answer those pesky research questions!

Video Response
Greetings, Comm Kiddos!
Below you will find the link to the TED talk given by Tony Porter. The video is only about 12-15 minutes long, so please view it in its entirety. Click below to watch the video:
http://www.ted.com/speakers/tony_porter
Then, in a well-thought out response, talk about the issues Porter discusses in the video. Whose problem IS violence against women? What does he think should be done about it?
Do you agree? Disagree? Explain.
Where do you stand on this issue? Has it been something you've ever thought about?
DUE DATE: OCTOBER 10, 2014 by midnight!!!
**Your response should be thoughtful, concise and free of any major errors that would detract from your message. If you need a word count, please try for 250-350 words. It may be best to type your response in a Word doc or some other word processing program, so that you can spell check and save your work, and then copy and paste into the dialog box on your screen.

In the Beginning...
Greetings, pumpkins!!
Welcome to your very first (unless you've had me before) blog post. We will begin with some easy stuff--intros. Not the essay kind--the other one. So, for those who have a tough time with this kind of thing (like me), just try to answer the following questions in paragraph form:
Name
Nickname or what you prefer to be called
Grade
Favorite class in school
What you're hoping to get out of this class
What you feel like doing with your life
Any and all info you would like to give (within reason and school appropriateness :) )
Have fun!!
