Greetings CommBabies!
As I was scrolling through my feeds the other day, something struck me. Men and women (or girls and boys if you prefer) express themselves verrry differently on social media. For example, many of the female-written tweets/posts say things like: "Relationship Goals" and then have a pic of some random (or fairly well-known) couple doing something couple-like.
Males, on the other hand, tweet about sports, funny vines they see etc.
So, let's do a little social experiment. Using your Twitter or FB account, choose at least 3 girls and 3 boys that your'e following or are "friends" with on FB and find their last 5 tweets/posts. What you're looking for is similarities to each other and differences. What do you notice?
Is there a difference in the way your M/F followers speak/write? What is it?
Note ANY similarities and ANY differences you see.
You can either screen shot the posts/tweets and copy them here, or you can transcribe the tweets yourself and talk.
This week and part of next, we are going to be talking about some of the differences men and women have as they experience the world.
This assignment is due by Friday, 11/14, at midnight.

ReplyDeleteThe similarities between the M/F tweets is that the¬¬y tweet base it off of feelings and things they are going through. They tweet things that they may not want to say to the person basically indirect things.
ReplyDeleteThe difference between the males and females is that guys usually tweet accomplishments or sports. Females tend to tweet feelings about a guy.
Larry Fitzgerald: "Got to love this job #Gameday #NFL #Salutetoservice #AZ Cardinals
Caela Lauren:"Everyone always wants to straighten my hair Leave my head alone
Kid :"It's too easy" (purple emoji with spike ears and smirk)
Melissa C: "I just want to ask him how you feel, but I'm not gonna ask"
Slimy Shady:"I wish everyone has emoji's because they are just so cute and bring so much more joy to conversations"
Kyle Defrancisco: "If @Trouty20 doesn't get MVP tonight"
Men and women are different when it comes to tweets. Men usually like to talk about accomplishments. They also talk about video games or sports and other things that is more of a men thing. Females, on the other hand, talk about relationships and heartbreaks. They talk about their emotions.
ReplyDeleteEmily Ohlson: "your actually a terrible person"
Aubree T: "I have been sleeping on and off all day"
Shea: "Not a man who wants to act as one"
Kyle DeFrancisco: "Connor mcdavid just acting stupid"
Jim Gaffigan: "Update: Nothing to report"
Black Frank White: "In a sea of people my eyes will always search for you"
Men and woman walk different, talk different, handle things different, but mostly tweet/text/post differently. Guys are usually to be tweeting about a sport, the fight of the week, or sadly, tweeting about a "hoe". Girls on the other hand or more likely to be tweeting about how stressed out they are, their feelings and emotions, school, etc.
ReplyDeleteJohn Foss: "ion f wit girls tht hot up mad guys. idc if they like ur "brother". we all kno how it go"
Will Fish: "To all those people who said that oak crest was gonna get blown out to one of the best teams in New Jersey, we tied 17-17"
Ryan Johnson: "way to do work tonight boys #oakfootball"
Hannah Fischer: "Usually just stare at my homework for a good 30 minutes until I can actually motivate myself to do it."
Camryn Kaenzig: "crazy how you can go from talking to each other each and every day to not at all."
Cierra Grabill: "in such a happy mood its crazy"
Both genders tend to tweet their opinions on things that are relevant to their lives at the moment. They are fairly similar in terms of why they choose to make the tweets. In both cases, there is something on a guy or girl’s mind and they feel like it is important enough to publicly announce. From what I observed, people seemed to use twitter as a way to get something off of their minds that may have been irking them even if that specific something is not necessarily negative. In most cases, both genders will tweet in hopes of getting responses that are possibly helpful or just plain entertaining. In terms of differences between the two genders, women tend to tweet about things that have impacted them on a more emotional level. On the other hand, men tend to make tweets that are slightly more lighthearted and sometimes a little vulgar. Unsurprisingly, the tweets by each gender matched their own stereotype. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, however, it does perpetuate a sexist prejudice against both men and women. Do these young women and men tweet the way they do because it is societal norm? Do people try to defend their masculinity/femininity via twitter? This experiment has opened up quite a couple of questions that I am not exactly sure how to answer. You can tell a lot about a person by the way that they tweet but I would not say that it’s safe to judge an entire gender based on stereotypes. After witnessing a trend within both genders, we can definitely make the conclusion that conformity has a huge influence on the way all of us behave on social media. Twitter indirectly exposes the sexism that exists in the conventions of both our society as well as our culture.

ReplyDeleteGirls and boys react to things differently. So it’s only certain that they talk about different things. While most girls tweet about their feelings or post a relationship quote. Boys tend to post about sports or sports related things or a indirect tweet about a hoe.
ReplyDeleteKevin Stokes: “Everyone catch spirit bus to game tomorrow! #PlayoffGame #BeatCentral”
Katia: ” hate waisting my time on ppl yo ”
Qua: “My pride is stronger than my feelings don’t try to play me. I could think of you 24/7 and you still wouldn’t hear from me.”
Marqueyz: “Oakcrest football all in East Toms River, who’s giving me gas money? #supporttheOak?”
, Kassandra: “Accept what is, let go of what was. And have faith in what will be.”
Men and women tend to post about very differnt things, with of couse acceptions. While a woman will post more about how she is feeling, or silly randome things about her say, a man would post something more 'masculine' (aka raunchy, tough, ect.) or about life in general, or things that might change the way said man might act or react to the world around him.
ReplyDelete(Female) @I*********e Been out all day looking at houses and having meetings...
She told her friends and followers something about her day. It was simple, and menial, and wouldnt affect anyone other then her.
(Male, this one was posted in a series of 5-6 posts, and was trimmed down to avoid useless information and confusion) @s*************t I hate the YT communtity... thinking of going solo... f**k this i signed off to make a livin off of what i love.
He told the world about something that would effect more then just himself, If he went solo he would no longer work with others, and so it would be important for others to know.
(Female) @S*********n Are you in love with me? I feel like you're in love with me. Lets not overstep any boundries.
This was a face to face confrontaion, but still ties back to the other consepts, showing emotions, or things that wouldnt really effect people other then the two of them.
(Male)@B*********e wrote: Did you know when you poop, you're cleaning your body of evil.
I dont know exactly what this was about... i suppose an outlier can exsist.
(female) @M*********x Thougths and prayers go out to my aunt as she goes to surgery today *emojis*
Again, shes posting about emotions, and though she is a tiny bit of an outlier, its easy to see the pattern forming from this.
(Male) @A**********c i dont know wha yik yak is by im going to download it anyways
While without knowing who he, is(which for referance, he is a youtube artist) it may not be seen, i can say this is something that could effect his community of followers.
(Names sensored for privecy.)

These might not be the best examples to show the differences between males and females way of articulating and expressing their feelings or experiences through tweets. There are obvious differences and underlying similarities of tweets from males and females. The two could be tweeting about similar situations or things and expressing the same emotions, but in different ways. Girls are more likely give a detailed or vivid tweet while guys are more likely to give a broad statement that could be referring to many different situations. The use of pictures, emojis and punctuations are also different from each other. Immature boys and girls enjoy using the tongue and water emoji while referring to someone they know or someone famous that they consider to be extremely attractive. While others, both boys and girl, will use the heart filled eyes face followed by several other hearts to express the same feeling for the person they believe to be abnormally attractive.

I've come to find girls post more touchy feely tweets while boys post more about what they are doing at the time. Girls also seem to use a lot more emojis and end their statements like thisssssss. Overall you can see the difference in the way genders tweet, however you can also see the similarities as well.
P.S I'm a bit late on the post (IM SO SORRY)
